We take our paddle boards up & down the Huron here. It’s so calm & peaceful, pretty clean except for the occasional beer can tossed in the river by some idiots. Very family friendly. The water is pretty shallow in most places, sometimes in the heat of summer our paddle board fins even drag on the bottom in certain areas.
Spent a weekend there, first time camping in Michigan. Location is amazing beautiful view, secluded, very close to the boat rental. Would love to go back there again
We hadn't been camping for years, but after a weekend here, we booked another site for two weeks later. The Modern Campground has 130 roomy sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and electronic hook-up (nice for fresh-ground coffee!) We had space for a six-person tent, dining fly and our car, but could easily have fit another tent. The centrally-located bathrooms are nice and clean. :-) Canoe rental nearby, lots of trails, dog-friendly. It's much quieter during the week than on weekends, but aren't most campgrounds? Michigan DNR website has a map of campsites, including description and a picture, which is the perfect resource for helping you choose the perfect campsite for your next outdoor adventure.
I live nearby and kayak here about 20 times a year. I have yet to find a better place to kayak in the entire US. The walking trails are good. The camp grounds are very nice. With the coordination, you can kayak all the way to 5 miles west of US 23. There is river side camping in Island Lake state park.
A campground with helpful staff! We camped during the Halloween trick or treat camp, it was so much fun for all ages! So many activities for the younger children and the decorations were great! Large sites with lots of room to unpack! Will be visiting again soon!
